Navigating the path to university can often feel like a daunting journey, with strict entry requirements and limited options. However, there's good news: university pathway programs offer a more flexible and tailored approach.

If you're an international student dealing with the complexities of university entry, UNSW College pathway programs can serve as a bridge to help you achieve your academic and professional goals.

What is a Foundation Studies program?

Part of our pathway programs are Foundation Studies. They are the perfect transition from high school to university that can help prepare you for undergraduate studies.

Students are welcome to apply after year 11 or 12 to start Foundations Studies, as a pathway to their chosen university degree. As the first in Australia to offer pathway programs, we are proud to celebrated 35 years of supporting students in their journey to higher education.

These are the options available within our Foundations Studies program:

  • Transition: Short, intensive course over four months.

How a Foundations Studies program can set you on a path to academic success

  1. Tailored learning experience

  2. Develop essential academic skills

  3. Smooth transition into university life

#1. Tailored learning experience

We understand that every student has their own unique strengths and challenges. What sets our programs apart is our commitment to personalised learning – you have the flexibility to choose the stream and duration that best align with your desired degree.

Our programs vary in duration, ranging from 4 to 12 months.

With smaller class sizes, with less than 20 students in each class – this enables you to have more interaction with teachers and peers and fosters a flexible learning environment where you can easily ask questions and receive immediate feedback. Additionally, this setting promotes a strong sense of community, making it easier to form meaningful connections.

#2. Develop essential academic skills

If you're aiming for a bachelor's degree at UNSW Sydney, our Foundation Studies programs are tailored to equip you with essential academic skills needed to excel. For those seeking support with English proficiency, our pathway programs also include courses in Academic English.

Each program is designed to move at a pace that works for you and ensures that any knowledge gaps are addressed with our dedicated teaching staff, who can support you in any academic area.

You will have the opportunity to participate in lectures and tutorials on the University campus and improve your language and presentation skills. We develop and design all program content in consultation with each faculty across the University – this ensures you will be as prepared as possible to start your degree.

#3. Smooth transition into university life

At UNSW College, we don’t just prepare you for academic success, we also enrich your social life. Embracing diversity, we organise cultural integration events, field trips, and volunteering opportunities for students. These activities are here to encourage you to enhance your communication, teamwork and adaptability skills – ensuring a well-rounded learning experience that prepares you for success in any professional setting.

By starting our programs before university, you not only establish a solid academic and social foundation but also gain the confidence to transition smoothly to university life.
