Once you successfully complete FEEC, you can progress without sitting any other English tests. 

With a high pass rate, over 95% of students qualify for entry into a Foundation Studies program after studying FEEC.

Who is this program for?

Our Foundation English Entry Course has been designed specifically for international students who need extra support with their English language skills, before starting a Foundation Studies pogram.  

The 10-week course provides the support you need to achieve your English goals so you can begin your journey to UNSW Sydney. You’ll improve your writing, speaking and digital skills, develop independent learning skills and receive individual feedback. When you’ve successfully completed the course, you’ll progress straight into Foundation Studies or Transition Program. No further English tests required!

The FEEC helps you build the English skills that will give you the confidence to succeed at UNSW College and UNSW Sydney. Upon successful completion of the Foundation English Entry Course, you’ll have the practical tools you need to get the most out of every lecture, assignment and assessment. 

Learn to: 

  • Present, discuss and contribute to group work 
  • Take notes in lectures 
  • Read academic texts and develop research skills 
  • Write in an academic tone 
  • Use the appropriate grammar and pronunciation 
  • Develop independent learning strategies 

With this basic knowledge, plus fundamental English language and academic skills, you’ll be ready to take the next step and succeed.

Entry requirements

The Foundation English Entry Course is designed for international students who need extra skills to start their pathway to UNSW Sydney, with UNSW College. 

You will be placed in an appropriate class based on a test score under the following conditions:

  1. IELTS, TOEFL and PTE tests must have been taken within 24 months of the enrolment date. 
  2. If you have variations in test subscores, you may be assessed individually for placement and may require additional weeks of study. 
  3. UNSW College reserves the right to require you to undertake our placement test to confirm appropriate course placement. 
  4. UNSW College reserves the right to make changes to this course placement guide without notice. 
  5. Progression into the next Academic English Program depends on your achievement in course assessments. You may progress more quickly or slowly than the indication in weeks provided in this table. 
  6. UNSW College also accepts Cambridge Advanced English (CAE). 

Academic calendars

The academic calendar consists of important dates throughout your study period such as Orientation, census dates, study weeks, exam weeks and breaks for your program or course of study.

Depending on your level of English, you may need to study an Academic English Program. This may consist of up to 20 weeks of additional English language tuition in our Foundation English Entry Course and Essential Academic English Course.

Orientation dates for Academic English Programs are on the first day of classes. You will receive information about Orientation a few weeks prior to your start date. Census dates for Academic English Programs are 1 week after the first day of classes.
