What is Online University English Entry Course (OUEEC)?

The Online University English Entry Course (OUEEC) is designed for international students who aim to progress to an undergraduate or postgraduate (coursework or research) degree at UNSW Sydney but do not meet UNSW’s English entry requirements. This 5 or 10-week program allows you to study from anywhere in the world and gain the skills and confidence to succeed at UNSW. If you successfully pass OUEEC, you do not need to sit any other English tests.

Once you complete the Online University English Entry Course, you'll be ready to progress straight into your bachelor’s or master’s degree at UNSW Sydney.

Overview

The OUEEC consists of 20 hours of weekly class time. Additionally, it is recommended that you undertake an extra 10 hours of self-study and assessment work to maximise your learning outcomes.

OUEEC will equip you to succeed in real-world student settings. Upon successful completion of this course, you’ll have the practical tools you need to get the most out of every lecture, assignment and assessment.

These skills include:

  • Giving academic presentations
  • Contributing effectively and confidently to group discussions
  • Reading university-level text
  • Developing independent learning strategies
  • Using established academic rules and principles
  • Understanding lectures, discussions and media reports

During the course, you will listen to real lectures, discussions and media reports; practice giving academic presentations; read university-level texts; write essays, case study analyses and reports, and learn about independent learning strategies that fit you and your learning pathway. 

You will have regular check-ins with our experienced UNSW teachers who will help prepare you for the academic journey ahead. Their knowledge of course material and university course structure will help prepare you for your future at UNSW.

Entry requirements

The Online University English Entry Course is designed for international students who have received a conditional offer from UNSW Sydney. This program is only available to students based outside Australia.

You will be placed in an appropriate class based on a test score under the following conditions:

 

  1. IELTS, TOEFL and PTE tests must have been taken within 24 months of the enrolment date.
  2. If you have variations in test subscores from the entry requirements for UEEC (5 or 10 weeks), it could mean you are not eligible for Online UEEC (5 or 10 weeks). You could be eligible for additional weeks of English (UEEC15 or UEEC20) in person at the next available intake.
  3. UNSW College reserves the right to require you to undertake our placement test to confirm appropriate course placement.
  4. UNSW College reserves the right to make changes to this course placement guide without notice.
  5. UNSW College also accepts Cambridge Advanced English (CAE).
